Preparing to massacre his fellow Norwegians, Anders Berhing Breivik found it impossible to illegally acquire a machine gun.
Having failed in that effort, he purchased a Ruger Mini-14 which he described as "the most "army like" rifle allowed in Norway, although it is considered a "poor man's" AR-15."
It was a deadly choice.
Meanwhile, Canada is preparing to deregulate the Ruger Mini-14.
Stephen Harper's party thinks the Ruger Mini-14 is so benign that Canadian firearms owners shouldn't even have to register it any more. Doing away with the long gun registry is a priority, they say.
Jack Layton's party still won't come clean and tell Canadians whether the Ruger Mini-14, and other guns like it, should continue to be registered.
It would be sad if it wasn't so damned pathetic.

More NDP hypocrisy on guns
When guns are killing people in foreign places, the NDP has a clear position, Canada should do whatever we can to stop it.
When they're killing vulnerable women and children in Canada, not so much.

A handful of questions
During his most recent infrequent visit to Calgary, Stephen Harper told Conservative supporters that his government would finally get around to repealing the life saving long gun registry.
Three questions
Now that the NDP is the Official Opposition, will the NDP caucus take a clear position on the life saving long gun registry?
Will they bother to whip that position?
And what will the NDP position actually be?
